Indian customs data

Indian customs data is prepared from international trade documents like invoices, bills of lading, product manifesto, exporter r importer declaration, etc. It is prepared by customs officials with the help of automated systems that generates reports for every single transaction that pass through the respective ports. India has thirteen major sea ports
and one hundred and eighty seven minor ones. Apart from than a host of airports also serve for the transport and logistics of international trade.

The purpose of preparing the data is many and varied. First and foremost it enables the customs department to have a control over the transactions happening in its vicinity. It can ensure that all transactions for which import duty or excise duty is applicable have been duly charged with. Secondly, it is a boon for local traders to seek more international business. They can use the contact details of importers in the data to arrange for more supplies or business arrangements. Indian customs data usually contains details like name of the importer or exporter, HIS code of the product, quantity transported, rate in foreign currency etc. Indian customs data is mainly prepared for incoming consignment from foreign nations. It is not prepared for domestic movement of goods from one port to another or from one destination to another through air freight or cargo.
